Nearly every server failure was visible in advance
The data was usually there. The problem was that nobody had been made responsible for looking at it.
Server failures are rarely surprising in retrospect. The drive had been reporting errors for weeks. The array had been degraded since a rebuild nobody completed. The machine was eight years old and out of warranty. Almost every catastrophic server failure we are called into after the fact was visible in monitoring data that nobody was watching.
The purpose of server management is to make failures boring: detected early, planned for, and resolved during a maintenance window rather than at 6am on a Monday with everyone standing around.
What we manage
Windows Server across supported versions, Active Directory and Group Policy, file and print services, Hyper-V and VMware virtualization, storage and RAID health, backup integration, and the line-of-business applications that run on top of it all. Monitoring covers drive health, array status, temperature, memory and disk pressure, service availability and event logs, with alerting that reaches a technician rather than an unmonitored mailbox.
Aging hardware
We will tell you when a server should be replaced, and we will show you the arithmetic rather than asserting it. A machine past warranty with drives beyond their rated service life is not a saving. It is an unfunded liability with a known failure mode, and the cost of the outage generally exceeds the cost of the replacement by a wide margin.
That conversation includes whether you need a replacement server at all. For a lot of small businesses the answer is now no, or partially no, and we will say so even though a migration is less revenue for us than a hardware project.
What should stay on-premise
Cloud is not automatically correct. Applications with heavy local file access, certain line-of-business software with specific latency requirements, and some regulatory situations still favor a local server. We assess each workload on its own terms rather than applying a policy, and we present the cost comparison over a realistic period rather than only the first year, which is where most cloud migration proposals conveniently stop.
Active Directory
Domain infrastructure tends to accumulate: accounts for people who left, group policies applied for reasons nobody remembers, permissions granted temporarily years ago. We audit and clean this, which improves both security and the number of unexplained behaviors your staff work around daily.

Common questions
Can you manage a server without ever being in the building?
Yes, for essentially all administration: patching, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting and recovery. Physical work such as replacing a failed drive or power supply is handled by a local vendor we brief and manage on your behalf.
Should we move our server to the cloud?
It depends on the workload, and we will give you a straight answer rather than a default one. File servers and domain controllers often migrate well. Applications with heavy local file access sometimes do not. We present the multi-year cost comparison, not just year one.
Our server is nine years old. How urgent is this?
Urgent. Past warranty, with drives beyond their rated service life, you are carrying a known risk with an unknown date attached. We would prioritize a planned replacement or migration over almost any other project.
