Dental Practices
IT for dental practices, chairside reliability
Practice management software, digital sensors and imaging, supported remotely with maintenance scheduled around your operatories rather than through them.
Sector Focus
IT for dental practices
Practice management, sensors, imaging
Dental practices run a tighter loop than most medical offices. Appointments are shorter, the schedule is denser, and a workstation failure in an operatory has an immediate visible cost with a patient already in the chair.
The technical environment is also more specialized than it first appears. Practice management software with particular database requirements, digital sensors with drivers that are frequently sensitive to Windows updates, imaging that generates significant storage growth, and often a mix of workstation ages because operatories were equipped as the practice expanded.
Sensors and drivers
Digital sensor drivers are among the most fragile software we routinely encounter in any industry. A Windows feature update can break capture on a machine that worked perfectly the previous day. This is a large part of why unmanaged update policy is a genuine operational risk in a dental practice rather than a theoretical one.
We test updates before broad deployment specifically because of this category of software, and we keep documented driver versions and installation procedures so recovery is fast rather than exploratory.
Storage growth
Practices are consistently surprised by imaging storage. A practice four years into digital radiography frequently discovers their server was sized for the first year. We monitor growth and plan capacity ahead of it rather than responding to a full disk.
Backup that includes the database
The most common serious gap we find is backup that covers the file shares but not the practice management database, or a database backup running while the software holds files open, producing a copy that will not restore. We verify by restoring.
Scope
What we handle for you
The specifics that matter in your sector rather than a generic checklist.
Practice management support
Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental and similar systems supported at the infrastructure level, coordinated with the vendor.
Sensor and imaging reliability
Documented driver versions and tested updates, because sensor drivers break on Windows updates more than any other software category.
Imaging storage planning
Growth monitored and capacity planned ahead, rather than discovered when a disk fills mid-morning.
Operatory workstation management
Standardized configuration across chairs so a fix that works on one works on all of them.
HIPAA technical safeguards
Access control, audit logging, encryption and authentication, implemented and documented for your compliance file.
Verified database backup
Practice management databases backed up correctly and restored in testing, not merely reported as successful.
Common questions
Will you work with our practice management vendor?
Yes, directly. We handle the infrastructure their software runs on and coordinate with their support when an issue crosses the boundary. Your office manager should not be relaying technical questions between two vendors.
Our sensors stop working after Windows updates. Can that be prevented?
Largely, yes. Managed update policy means updates are tested on a pilot machine before reaching every operatory, and deferred long enough to avoid first-week problems. We also keep documented driver versions so recovery is a known procedure rather than an afternoon of searching.
How much imaging storage do we need?
It depends on your volume and modality mix, and the honest answer is that we measure your actual growth rate rather than quoting a general figure. Most practices we assess are storing considerably more per year than they estimated.
