Microsoft 365, configured properly

Most tenants we inherit are running on defaults with licensing nobody has reviewed since the year it was purchased. Tenant administration, security policy, SharePoint structure and licensing cleanup, handled deliberately.

The tenant nobody has looked at since setup

Almost every environment we inherit has orphaned licenses, unreviewed admin rights and mail authentication left at defaults.

Microsoft 365 is the backbone of most small businesses now, and it is also the thing most often left exactly as it arrived. The tenant was created during a migration years ago, licenses were assigned as people joined, security policy was whatever the defaults happened to be, and SharePoint became a filing cabinet nobody agreed on the structure of.

None of that is catastrophic on any given day, which is precisely why it persists. It surfaces later, as a licensing bill twenty percent higher than headcount justifies, a security posture that fails an insurance question, or a document library that three departments have quietly given up on and replaced with a shared drive.

What we do with an inherited tenant

We start with an audit: every license assigned, every account with elevated privileges, every mail flow rule, every external sharing permission, and every mailbox belonging to somebody who left. That last category is reliably productive. In most inherited tenants there are licensed accounts for former staff, sometimes years after departure, quietly billing every month and constituting a standing security exposure.

Then we fix the configuration: multi-factor authentication enforced, conditional access rules that fit how your people actually work, mail authentication records set correctly, external sharing brought to a deliberate policy rather than an accidental one, and retention configured to match whatever your industry requires.

Licensing, honestly

Microsoft's licensing tiers are genuinely difficult to compare, and the difference between plans is worth real money at scale. We review what each person actually uses against what they are licensed for. Sometimes this means downgrading users who do not need the premium tier. Occasionally it means upgrading, because a security feature bundled into a higher tier costs less than buying the equivalent separately. We show you the arithmetic either way.

Migration

Whether you are moving from an on-premise Exchange server, from Google Workspace, or from another provider's tenant, migration is a planning exercise more than a technical one. Mail, calendars, contacts, shared mailboxes, distribution groups, permissions and mobile devices all need to arrive intact and on a schedule that does not interrupt a workday. We run these on weekends, with a rollback plan documented before anything moves.

Scope

What is included

Everything below is part of the service rather than an upsell discovered later.

Tenant audit and cleanup

Every license, privileged account, mail rule and external share reviewed. Orphaned licensed accounts are consistently the largest finding.

Security policy configuration

Enforced MFA, conditional access, and mail authentication records set correctly rather than left at their defaults.

Licensing optimization

What each person actually uses compared against what they are paying for, with the arithmetic shown to you rather than summarized.

SharePoint and Teams structure

A file structure your staff can navigate, with permissions that reflect how the business is actually organized.

Migration from Exchange or Google

Mail, calendars, contacts, shared mailboxes and permissions moved on a weekend with a documented rollback plan.

Ongoing administration

User creation and removal, license assignment, policy maintenance and support for the applications your staff use daily.

Common questions

How disruptive is a migration to Microsoft 365?

Handled properly, most staff arrive Monday to a mail client that works and a prompt to sign in once. We run migrations over weekends, pre-stage as much as possible, and keep the old system available for a defined period as a fallback.

Can you help us reduce our licensing spend?

Frequently, yes. The most common findings are licensed accounts for people who left and users on a premium tier who only need the standard one. We show you the per-user analysis rather than asking you to trust a summary figure.

Do you resell Microsoft licensing?

We can procure it, but you own the licenses and the tenant in your own name. We will not hold your tenant in our partner account in a way that makes leaving us difficult.
