How to install TeamViewer
A technician may ask you to run TeamViewer for a remote support session. This is the whole process, the safe way, in about three minutes.
What TeamViewer is, in one paragraph
TeamViewer is a remote support tool. When you run it and read us the ID and password it shows, one of our technicians can see your screen and, with your permission, control the mouse and keyboard to fix the problem while you watch. When the session ends, the access ends with it.
Before you start: one safety rule
Only install remote software when you called us, or you are on the phone with a technician you already know. If a pop-up, email, or unexpected caller tells you to install TeamViewer, hang up. That is the single most common tech support scam, and our free scam checker explains what those look like.
1. Download it from the official site only
Go to teamviewer.com/download in your browser and choose the download for Windows. Do not use a search-result ad or any other site, because fake TeamViewer installers exist and they are exactly what the safety rule above is about.
2. Run the installer
Open the downloaded file. When asked how you want to proceed, the simplest choice is Run only, which starts TeamViewer once without installing anything permanently. If we will be helping you regularly, choose Default installation instead. When Windows asks for permission to make changes, click Yes.
3. Read us the ID and password
TeamViewer opens showing Your ID and a Password. Read both to the technician on the phone. That is all we need to connect. The password changes after the session, so yesterday's password is useless to anyone.
4. Watch, and end it whenever you want
You will see everything the technician does, and you can talk through it on the phone the whole time. Closing the TeamViewer window ends the session instantly. If you chose Run only, nothing remains running afterward.
Prefer not to install anything?
Our browser-based session at qsme.tv/ocean starts a secure remote session with no installation at all, and it is usually the faster option for a one-time fix. The Support Center has both routes.
When to stop and call us
These steps are safe on any computer. If you get partway through and something looks different from what is described, or the problem keeps coming back, that is usually a sign of a deeper issue worth a professional look. Call (858) 429-1311 and a US-based technician can take it from there, including the whole session, start to finish, while you watch. The first conversation is free.
